President Donald Trump spent his 100th day in office in Michigan, marking his first visit to the state since flipping it back to Republican in November 2024.
Trump touted his economic policies at Macomb Community College, claiming that tariffs imposed on trade partners put Michigan first.
The president landed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base on Tuesday (April 29) afternoon. Seeing Air Force One fly overhead is an experience most people on the ground haven’t had before.
After his arrival, Trump spent some time at the base before heading to Macomb Community College for his rally.
He kicked off the day with a significant announcement for Michigan’s auto industry.
Trump signed an executive order to modify auto tariffs to boost domestic production. Now, domestic car makers can receive reimbursements when they import parts.
After that, he returned to Selfridge Air Base and announced that a new series of fighter jets would be stationed there. This followed a meeting he had with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer earlier this month.
The president wrapped up his trip with a rally at Macomb Community College, celebrating his first 100 days in office.
At the rally in Warren, Trump emphasized jobs, tariffs, and what he called a new golden age for America.
In front of a packed crowd, he declared that his second term is off to a historic start.
Trump promised a wave of new automotive jobs in Michigan, attributing the credit to his tariffs and tax policies.
Other talking points included banning paper straws, ending U.S. aid abroad, and reversing Biden-era climate policies.
The president will now focus on promoting economic results ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Meanwhile, several opposition groups protested in Roseville Tuesday night near Hayes and 12 Mile roads.
They aimed to highlight what organizers describe as the disruption and hardship caused by Trump’s first 100 days in office.
In a show of bipartisanship, Trump thanked Governor Whitmer for coming to the White House earlier this month to advocate for Selfridge, who had pushed for the mission.
She stopped by Local 4 to discuss the mission and how she and Trump worked together to complete the ultimate mission.
