The Top Thrill 2 roller coaster is set to welcome riders when Cedar Point opens on Saturday.
Here’s what to know about the ride and what a spokesperson said to Local 4 ahead of its reopening:
When does the Top Thrill 2 reopen?
The Top Thrill 2 is set to reopen on Saturday, May 3, 2025, which is when Cedar Point opens for the season.
Another coaster, Siren’s Curse, is set to open sometime during the 2025 season, but an exact date hasn’t been announced yet.

What is the Top Thrill 2?
The Top Thrill 2, which is the tallest and fastest triple-launch roller coaster in the world, according to the park, replaces the original Top Thrill Dragster.
Here’s what Cedar Point had said about the coaster:
“On the start, using an all-new linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch system, riders will peel out down the straightaway reaching speeds of 74 mph, racing toward the sky on Top Thrill 2’s original 420-foot-tall “top hat” tower. After experiencing weightlessness during the “rollback” – the coveted fan-favorite moment when the train’s momentum isn’t great enough to make it up and over the tower – the train shifts into reverse and into its second launch, reaching speeds of 101 mph.
Riders will then see Cedar Point unlike ever before as they speed into a backward climb at a 90-degree angle on a new, 420-foot-tall track tower. After a second moment of weightlessness, the train shifts into drive and races forward into its third launch, clocking in at the ride’s top speed of 120 mph. Crossing over the top hat tower, the train decelerates momentarily before diving into a 270-degree spiral and crossing the finish line."

When did the Top Thrill 2 close?
The nearly new coaster initially opened during the 2024 season, but was shut down just a week later for a mechanical modification.
Cedar Point discusses closure/reopening of Top Thrill 2
Cedar Point Communications Director Tony Spark spoke to Local 4 about the reopening of the ride.
When asked about what prompted the closure, here’s what Spark said:
“The manufacturer of the ride had determined right after they opened that they wanted to make some modifications to the ride’s vehicles,” said Spark. “So, we took it out of service based on their recommendations.”
The manufacturer used the time it was closed to make upgrades and complete inspections.
“We did some testing in December, and they’ve come back in the spring with the reconfigured trains and the updates they wanted to make, and it’s currently testing and getting ready for Saturday,” said Spark.
He said the park is looking forward to reopening the ride to visitors.
“We’re excited to get guests on it, because it’s a fantastic new experience,” said Spark.
