DETROIT – A Michigan State Police trooper is injured, and a man is dead following a shooting on Detroit’s west side early Monday morning.
The shooting happened in the 20000 block of Murray Hill, near the Lodge and 8 Mile, just after 4:30 a.m. on May 5, 2025.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers assigned to its auto theft team were involved, and a 23-year-old Detroit man was killed during the exchange of gunfire.
During a press conference on May 5, just after 8 a.m., Michigan State Police said troopers were working undercover in the area when the suspect, a 23-year-old man, came out of a house and allegedly shot three times at the troopers.

State troopers returned fire, killing the Detroit man. A trooper was shot in the leg and back.
The trooper shot was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment. Police told Local 4 the trooper is expected to be okay.
