Police said the officer had just completed a traffic stop and was in the shopping plaza at the southwest corner of 9 Mile Rd and Van Dyke Avenue near the Dollar General Store at 7591 9 Mile Road.

The officer was exiting the shopping plaza, attempting to turn left onto westbound 9 Mile Road to continue his patrols when a large dump truck and another passenger vehicle were both eastbound on 9 Mile Road approaching Van Dyke Avenue and stopped to let the officer pull out.

Police said a third vehicle, driven by a woman, was driving eastbound in the turn lane and collided with the officer’s marked police car.

No lights or sirens were activated then because it was not a pursuit or other police action. Neither driver could clearly see around the dump truck.

The Warren Fire Department transported both the officer and the woman driver to Metro Detroit hospitals with minor injuries.

The Warren Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate due to the involvement of an on-duty officer.

Police said the investigation included canvassing the area for security video of the incident. Still, at this time, it appeared to be a routine traffic accident involving an on-duty police officer.
