REDFORD, Mich. – Thurston High School will close for “Day of Healing” after a student was injured following a shooting on a school bus in Redford.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (May 7) at 2:45 p.m., and police said the student was transported to the hospital by the Redford Township Fire Department for medical treatment.

Officials said the firearm was recovered, and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and they were gathering additional information.
The South Redford School District said it wanted to allow the school community time to process and heal, so Thurston High School will be closed on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Additional support services will be made available for students and staff in the days ahead, as the safety and well-being of their students and staff remain their highest priority.
The incident continues to be under investigation, and any additional inquiries should be directed to the Redford Township Police Department.
