OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Dearborn man was arrested after ramming his truck into an armored vehicle and a police car during a traffic stop in Brandon Township early Thursday morning.

At around 3:30 a.m. on May 8, 2025, a Michigan State Police sergeant noticed he was being followed by a Toyota pickup truck. He made several turns and requested backup units when the pickup truck trailed behind him until they reached the intersection of M-15 and Seymour Lake Road.

According to police, the driver of the truck, a 47-year-old Dearborn man, ignored commands to exit the truck following a traffic stop.

A Michigan State Police BearCat, an armored vehicle, parked in front of the pickup truck while an Oakland County unit car parked behind it.

As the BearCat was getting into position, the Dearborn man accelerated his truck forward, ramming into the armored vehicle. He then reversed, ramming into the police car.

Police said he then put his car into drive and held down the gas pedal until his truck engine caught fire. The fire forced him to leave his truck, and he was then taken into custody.

During the investigation, Michigan State Police said the Dearborn man may have been having a mental health crisis.

“We are fortunate that this incident did not get any worse,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “Troopers and deputies were able to get this suspect into custody [without] anyone getting hurt.”
