Macomb County school employee allegedly hits 6-year-old with autism, charged with misdemeanor

Employee allegedly resigned after internal investigation

EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A 53-year-old woman working at an Eastpointe elementary school has been charged with a misdemeanor after allegedly hitting a first grader with autism.

According to authorities, a 6-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by a staff member at Forest Park Elementary in October. Kimberley Horen, a paraprofessional at the school, reportedly took the boy’s shoe off and intentionally hit him on the head with it.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said she was allowed to resign instead of being fired.

Horen was charged Thursday, May 8, with assault and battery, a misdemeanor punishable up to 93 days.
