TECUMSEH, Mich. – A Michigan man randomly picked out a scratch-off lottery ticket while at the store, and he ended up winning a $300,000 prize.

The 58-year-old Lenawee County man, who decided to stay anonymous, purchased his winning Safe Cracker Cashword ticket at the Busch’s Fresh Food Market at 1450 West Chicago Boulevard in Tecumseh, which is about 30 miles from Ann Arbor.

“I play all of the different instant games, so Safe Cracker Cashword just happened to be the game I randomly picked out that day while I was at the store,” the player told Michigan Lottery officials. “I scratched the barcode, scanned the ticket, and got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office, so that’s when I went through and played the game.”

The player said he “couldn’t believe it” when he scratched the ticket and revealed 10 words to win the $300,000 prize. He plans to invest his prize money.

Each Safe Cracker Cashword ticket is $5. The game was launched in December 2024, and since then, players have won more than $14 million playing it.

Players have the chance to win prizes from $5 up to $300,000 from this lottery game.
