CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – They say “moms are always right.”
When you look at Janet Vassallo, Betty Fleming, and Mary Johnston, they could be onto something.
“It goes by in such a flash. I mean, it seems like yesterday I was bringing them home from the hospital. Now, they’re grown up and they all have kids,” said Johnston, 87.
At Waltonwood Cherry Hill, Local 4 sat down with all three mothers to share some nuggets of wisdom.
What has been the best part about being a mom?
“I think I was meant to be a mom. I loved being a mother,” said Fleming, 89.
Vassallo, 78, shared her thoughts on the challenges of motherhood. The grandmother said it’s keeping them safe.
“Mothers always worry when they get their first driver’s license, or they get a job,” she said. “You don’t have that control. Moms like to have control. Let’s face it, we do.”
All three women are blessed to see the generations beyond their children.
Fleming told Local 4 she’s expecting to meet her seventh great-grandchild in about two weeks.
When asked if any of them would do anything differently as mothers, Fleming said, “I don’t think so.”
Vassallo added, “I don’t think so other than have the world a little different for them.”
As for advice for new moms?
“Enjoy it all because it goes by so fast,” Johnston said.
