Lodge Freeway reopens after road rage shooting investigation near 8 Mile Road in Detroit

Area serves as a detour for I-696, which is also why there is heavy traffic in the area

DETROIT – The Lodge Freeway has reopened after police investigated a road rage shooting near 8 Mile Road in Detroit.

Police initially closed the southbound lanes around 4 p.m. on Wednesday (May 14) but have since reopened.

The incident occurred at 2:35 p.m., Michigan State Police said one person was shot and transported to a Metro Detroit hospital.

The Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls of a shooting near the Lodge and 7 Mile Road.

Troopers said they found Detroit EMS treating a 64-year-old Birmingham man for a gunshot wound.

Officials said the man was alert and conscious while on the scene.

Troopers said they did locate the man’s vehicle, which had several bullet holes.

As of 8:45 p.m. MSP said they they do not have a motive for the shooting or a suspect/vehicle description.

The investigation is ongoing.
