A legacy of trust: Devin Scillian honored with Lifetime Achievement Award in Troy ceremony

Scillian spent nearly 30 years with WDIV

TROY, Mich. – One of our Local 4 family members just received a huge honor from the Society of Professional Journalists in Troy.

Our former anchor, Devin Scillian, was awarded a lifetime achievement award Wednesday (May 14) night.

We were in attendance to watch Scillian get recognized, and it was such a special moment.

He left the station back in December of 2024 after nearly 30 years.

During his time in Detroit, Scillian covered so many stories that really made a difference in people’s lives.

He acted as a true symbol of trust and professionalism in our newsroom.

During his remarks, Scillian shared a message for aspiring journalists.

“Journalism, yes, it is a business,” said Scillian. “It is the only business mentioned by name in the Constitution. It is a vital part of a functioning democracy. Information is the most precious resource in the world. You can halve all of the petroleum, the gold, the silver, the platinum, the diamonds, if I can halve all of the information. And as journalists, we are guardians of that information.”
