DETROIT – Just days after a customer was injured by glass because of a shooting at the hands of a gas station employee, the entire establishment has been temporarily shut down.
Family members say the victim is expected to be OK.
“He’s still in the hospital. Thank God for his protection,” said the victim’s cousin, Stacey Davis.
In the meantime, the community has taken to the streets, doing its best to speak out against what it believes is injustice.
“You got a business license, but you don’t have a license to kill. You got a license to sell,” said community Activist, with the Live In Peace Movement, Pastor Mo.
People in the area say that no matter what happened between the employee and the customer, the incident shouldn’t have happened.
“Nothing this gas station is worth you trying to shoot or kill or injure somebody,” said Colbert Young, who lives nearby.
This, however, isn’t the first incident where the city has had to step in and shut a sit-down store down where somebody was killed inside.
“Chief Bettison has been unapologetic about holding these businesses accountable in the city of Detroit. You will operate with regard. You will operate with respect and treat our residents of the community here in just that way,” said DPD Assistant Police Chief Franklin Hayes.
Until further notice, the gas station will be shut down.
