A man found dead inside a vehicle at a Tennessee tow yard was from Michigan, police said.

The man was identified as Dale Hilsabeck, 63, of Lansing, according to an update from the Murfreesboro Police Department on Tuesday.

He was the registered owner of the 2007 Hummer H3 in which he was found inside, according to police.

Police started investigating the “suspicious death” on Thursday, May 1.

That afternoon, officers were called to E.A. Towing on Southpointe Court after employees found the body while completing a tow lien on the Hummer since no one had claimed it.

The vehicle, which was believed to be abandoned, was towed from the Walmart store on Old Fort Parkway on Saturday, April 5.

The workers found the man’s body in the back of the locked vehicle on a sleeping mat.

They discovered the remains after they saw flies and smelled an odor coming from the rear of the vehicle.

The vehicle’s windows were covered in blackout material, which made it hard to see inside. The back seat, where the man was found, was laid flat and couldn’t be seen through the front window, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives are waiting for autopsy results to determine his cause of death.

Police say the towing company and Walmart have been cooperating with the investigation.
