Businesses, commuters struggle as water main breaks snarl Harrison Township

Road closures are also having a negative impact on local businesses like Boat Town Liquor

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A series of water main breaks in Harrison Township have caused road closures, heavy traffic, and some water shortages.

“That’s tough, you know, first couple of days you can get by and navigate around that issue, but long term, it’s gonna be a problem,” said Charles, who lives nearby.

Road closures are also having a negative impact on local businesses like Boat Town Liquor.

“Obviously, it’s probably not great for business right now, but it is what it is,” said Charles, who works inside Boat Town Liquor.

The township is trying its best to get ahead of the problem.

It is beginning the process of regulating water pressure in hopes of preventing other breaks from happening.

As a result, some places, specifically the south end of town, will have lower water pressure as the problem is taken care of.

While repairs are being made for those who lack pressure, the traffic puts many people under pressure.

“It’s hard to get around and move around because you can’t, can’t get that way. We were both late for work and school this morning. It wasn’t closed yesterday, but this morning, when we woke up, it was closed,” said Mitch and Shalynn Mitchell, who were both in traffic.

Metro Road is closed. Sixteen Mile Road is now closed on the westbound side from Crocker to North Pointe Parkway.

Jefferson Avenue is shut down at a clear. Speaking of Jefferson Avenue, water has now been turned off on Jefferson Avenue from Gatz Street to Shook Road.

The water mains at Memory Lane and Long Street are still broken. Memory Lane still has water.

Long Street has limited water. Either way, Many people are just hoping the problem is fixed sooner rather than later.

“The guys are out working hard, and we’re lucky to have these guys coming up with a remedy for this. I’m confident they’re going to get the job done,” Charles said.

Officials say the problem should be fixed in about a day or two.
