Detroit Fire Department honors heroic first responders with Lifesaver of the Year award

Pair responded to a dramatic situation where a cardiac arrest patient collapsed on a scaffolding 3 stories high

DETROIT – Two first responders are being honored in Detroit in a heartwarming celebration of heroism.

The Detroit Fire Department honored paramedic Christopher Photiades and EMT Samuel Lemire with the prestigious Kim L. Lifesaver of the Year award on Tuesday, May 20, for their brave and swift actions in saving a life.

The pair responded to a dramatic situation where a cardiac arrest patient collapsed on a scaffolding three stories in the air.

The award is named in memory of Kim Lagerquist, a pioneer in Michigan’s emergency medical services system who made transformative contributions to emergency medical care and education before his passing in 2017.

And a reminder, you can help us Go 4 It and become a CPR lifesaver.

We are teaming up with the city of Detroit and the Detroit Fire Department to teach hands-only CPR training.

The training is on Wednesday at the Coleman Young Recreation Center on Detroit’s east side. It will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
