Movie nights, tacos and trivia, outdoor yoga: Here’s a list of free summer events in Detroit

Events being held at Downtown Detroit parks

The Downtown Detroit Partnership is hosting several events in Downtown Detroit parks this summer. The activities include, silent disco yoga, tacos and trivia, music and markets, movie nights and more! (Downtown Detroit Partnership)

DETROIT – The Downtown Detroit Partnership announced a variety of free events being held in Detroit this summer.

People will be able to partake in a variety of new and returning activities, including movie nights, a tacos and trivia event, outdoor yoga classes and more throughout the summer.

“Downtown Detroit’s parks are at the heart of how the city connects and grows,” said David Cowan, chief public spaces officer for the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “Everything we produce is designed with intention—celebrating Detroit’s spirit, uniting people from all walks of life, and offering free, meaningful experiences. We welcome everyone to join us for the 2025 Summer in the Parks season.”

You can find more information on the different events being held this summer below. They’re organized in lists based on which Downtown Detroit park they’ll be held in.

Here’s a list of events scheduled to happen at Campus Martius Park this summer. Campus Martius Park is located at 800 Woodward Avenue.

The Beach at Campus Martius Park

The Beach at Campus Martius Park returns for the 2025 summer season.

“The Beach will feature a refreshed layout and vibe while maintaining the beloved, uniquely Detroit experience. Visitors can sit back and relax with their toes in the sand, build sandcastles with the kids, take in live music and sip refreshing cocktails with friends.”

Cabana 313

The park’s winter Chalet 313 experience will turn into Cabana 313 for the summer.

The open-air, two-story summer hangout spot will offer seasonal foods and cocktails with happy hour specials.

There will be 30 seats at the bar, and a 360-degree view of Campus Martius Park.

Tacos & Trivia Tuesdays

Tacos and Trivia will be held at Campus Martius Park from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays throughout the summer, starting on June 17.

Registration isn’t required. People can show up by themselves or with teams. They’ll have the chance to win fun prizes while they enjoy tacos and drinks.

Movie Nights in the D

Movie Nights in the D return for the 2025 season, but the free event will be held at Campus Martius Park on Friday nights this year.

The 10-week series begins on June 13 with “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

Other movies that will be shown during this series include the following:

  • “Sonic 3″
  • “The Fall Guy
  • “Shrek”
  • “Emperor’s New Groove”
  • “Twisters”
  • “Moana 2″

Popcorn from Jetta’s Popcorn will be available to buy during the screenings. There will also be giveaways and live entertainment before the movies begin.

Saturday Beach Parties

There will be several events held at Campus Martius Park throughout the summer, including themed beach parties, tacos and trivia, and movie nights. People can also grab seasonal foods and cocktails at Cabana 313, a new hangout spot being offered this summer. (Downtown Detroit Partnership)

Once a month on Saturdays, The Beach at Campus Martius will transform into a dance floor with live music from local DJs and bands.

The first beach party will be held on June 28, and the theme will be “Island Time Beach Party.” This event will feature music from The Leaky Tikis, a contest to determine who has the best Hawaiian shirt, stations for making DIY island-style T-shirts and free beachy giveaways.

Other themes include Y2K Pop Punk, R&Beach and Country Roots.

Campus Kids Days

Campus Kids Day events will be hosted at Campus Martius Park during the summer 2025 season. (Downtown Detroit Partnership)

Campus Kids Days, presented by Corewell Health, will return to Campus Martius Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on select Sundays from July 13 through Oct. 5.

“Hands-on activities and engaging experiences will be offered like the Baby Shark Bonanza, Back to School Bash, Autumn Adventure and Lil’ Boo Bash,” according to the release.

Yoga

Yoga events will be held at Capitol Park, Campus Martius Park and Beacon Park this summer. (Downtown Detroit Partnership/Steve Koss)

At 7:30 p.m. on select Mondays at Campus Martius Park, Citizen Yoga will host City Glow Yoga, a silent disco yoga event. This event will also be held at Beacon Park on select Thursdays.


The following events are scheduled to happen in Cadillac Square this summer. Cadillac Square is located at 662 Woodward Avenue.

Thursday Markets

Pop-up markets featuring local businesses will be hosted at Cadillac Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, starting on June 5.

Vendors at these “Thursday Markets” will sell handmade goods, foods, accessories, beauty products and more.

Downtown Street Eats

Food trucks will be at Cadillac Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays throughout the summer. (Downtown Detroit Partnership)

Vendors will serve a variety of cuisines, “from flavorful Asian dishes and savory Greek favorites to zesty Mexican bites,” will be available in Cadillac Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, according to the Downtown Detroit Partnership.


The following events are scheduled to happen in Beacon Park this summer. Beacon Park is located at 1901 Grand River Avenue.

Music & Markets

Music & Markets events are scheduled to happen on June 21, July 26 and Aug. 23 in Beacon Park.

Guests can purchase items from local makers and vendors and listen to live entertainment.

“Whether browsing unique gift options, sipping a craft beverage from Lumen Detroit or dancing the summer night away, this is a perfect way to celebrate Detroit’s creative spirit in a lively, open-air setting,” the Downtown Detroit Partnership said.

Summer Sundays

Summer Sundays will be held at Beacon Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 22, July 13, Aug. 10 and Sept. 14.

Lumen Detroit will offer brunch and specialty beverages, and there will also be crafts, games, environmental learning stations for kids, vendors and more.

The Boll Family YMCA will offer free fitness and wellness classes from 5 to 7 p.m. for people of all ages. You must be registered for the classes.

Pickleball at Beacon Park

You’ll be able to partake in team tournaments and open play sessions at Beacon Park this summer. The two outdoor courts have lights for evening play.

Workout Wednesdays

Weekly, outdoor fitness classes will be held at Beacon Park from June 18 through Aug. 25.


The following events are scheduled to happen in Grand Circus Park.

Grand Circus Dog Park Events

Monthly themed pup-friendly events will be held at Grand Circus Park again this summer.

“New this year: ‘Pupnic in the Park’, a laid-back afternoon of treats, games and plenty of pup-friendly fun, and the splash-tastic ‘Doggie Pool Paw-ty’ where furry friends can cool off in style,” according to the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

The TAILgate and Howl-O-Ween events will also be held again this year.

Bourbon Gardens

The Bourbon Gardens event at Grand Circus Park will be held on select Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m., starting on July 10. There will be jazz performers, themed activities and different foods offered.


The following events are scheduled to happen at Capitol Park. Capitol Park is located near 1200 Griswold Street.

Yoga at Capitol Park

Silent disco yoga events will be hosted by Citizen Yoga in Campus Martius Park and Beacon Park this summer. (Downtown Detroit Partnership/Steve Koss)

Citizen Yoga will host yoga sessions at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 7 p.m. on Sundays at Capitol Park throughout the summer. Both beginners and yogis with experience are encouraged to attend.

Additionally, at 7:30 p.m. on select Mondays at Campus Martius Park, Citizen Yoga will host City Glow Yoga, a silent disco yoga class. This event will be held at Beacon Park on select Thursdays.

Pilates in the Park: Sculpt Series

Sculpt Pilates will hold Mat Pilates classes in Capitol Park on Fridays throughout the summer. The classes are designed for people of all levels and will focus on core strength, mindful flows and intentional breathing.
