DETROIT – Detroit police are asking for assistance in finding those responsible for an attack in a park that left one man dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred Sunday (May 25) night in a popular area of the city.
Jayne Park, located off Conant Street near the Detroit-Hamtramck border, was the scene of the violence.
“This park is so beautiful. It’s almost hard to believe all the violence that took place here,” said Nathan West, a nearby resident.
Capt. Derrick Griffin of the Detroit Police Department described the scene: “It’s always beautiful. It’s always baseball and other activities going on around here. People come having a good time.”
Memorial Day at Jayne Park is an event that West looks forward to each year.
“This is just a safe and good park,” West said.
However, less than 24 hours ago, the park turned chaotic, leaving four men as victims of a series of violent events.
Griffin provided a rundown of the incident: “One individual was fatally shot, one individual was non-fatally shot, one individual was stabbed, and one individual was struck by a vehicle.”
Many in the community are shocked by the events.
“That’s the first incident to happen up here, and that’s beyond crazy,” West said.
Detroit police continue to investigate the incident. The victims have yet to be identified, so their ages remain unknown.
“Any information regarding this incident would be helpful,” Griffin said.
Regardless of the circumstances, West expressed his sympathy for the victims.
“My heart’s out to all their families, you know what I’m saying,” West said.
