Teen allegedly breaks into homes in Monroe County, threatens to shoot homeowner with stolen gun

13-year-old arrested, facing multiple charges

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A 13-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly breaking into homes in Bedford Township and threatening to shoot a homeowner with a stolen gun.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a report that a 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in the 3800 block of Section Road just after 4 p.m. on May 25.

After about an hour of deputies searching the area for the teen, a 911 call was made from a nearby home in the 7100 block of Twin Canyon Drive, reporting a teen broke into an outbuilding workshop and threatened the homeowner with a handgun.

Deputies responded to the home and saw that the teen was being restrained by the homeowner.

Further investigation revealed that the 13-year-old allegedly broke into the workshop, confronted the homeowner with a handgun, held the gun to the homeowner and threatened to shoot him. The homeowner tried to take the handgun from the teen and was able to get the gun away after a brief struggle. The teen then allegedly took a hammer and started swinging at the homeowner.

The teen was held down and restrained until a family member called 911.

Deputies said the 13-year-old also allegedly broke into a home in the 7000 block of Brookside Drive and stole a handgun prior to breaking into the home on Twin Canyon Drive.

The teen was taken to the Monroe County Youth Center on charges of home invasion, breaking and entering and felonious assault. His identity is not being released.
