Body pulled from Clinton River in Macomb County identified

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The dead body that was pulled from the Clinton River in Mount Clemens on Thursday has been identified.

Authorities identified the body on Friday (May 30) as Gregory Leino, 59, from Eastpointe.

The medical examiner’s office concluded that nothing suspicious was found.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office ruled the cause of death as drowning.

Leino was pulled from the Clinton River on Thursday, March 29, 2025.

According to authorities, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. from someone regarding a possible body in the Clinton River under the Gratiot Avenue Bridge.

The caller reportedly said they saw two feet among the debris in the water.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and confirmed it was a body, which the county’s Marine Division then removed.
