Child in critical condition after accidental shooting inside Troy home

Officials said the child had emergency surgery

TROY, Mich. – A child has been listed in critical condition after an accidental shooting inside a home in Troy.

The shooting occurred on Friday (May 30) at 4:12 p.m. on Crooks Road and Muer Street, where police said a 9-year-old boy was bleeding from his head.

Officials said the boy was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and has been listed in critical condition.

Police said a firearm was recovered inside the residence.

Investigators said they are working to determine how the 9-year-old boy gained access to the weapon and the exact circumstances that led to the incident.

Officials said his mother was present in the home at the time of the shooting.
