Motorcyclist killed after running red light in Oakland County

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – A motorcyclist died Sunday in Oakland County after reportedly ignoring a red light.

It happened at about 3 p.m., June 1, in Bloomfield Hills.

According to authorities, a Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on Woodward Avenue, but the vehicle sped off.

The motorcyclist was reportedly spotted by another officer, who saw it speeding and ignoring “multiple traffic control devices.” The driver allegedly ignored a red light at Long Lake Road and struck an eastbound vehicle that had the right of way.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and struck multiple objects in the median of Woodward Avenue.

First responders gave aid, but the motorcyclist died at the scene. The occupants of the vehicle they struck were not injured.
