Originally opened in 1913, Michigan Central Station was designed by architects Warren & Wetmore and Reed & Stem, the same team behind New Yorkโs iconic Grand Central Terminal. The last train left Michigan Central Station in 1988, and the building stood vacant for roughly 30 years before being purchased by Ford.

Officials said restorations of historic architectural details are crucial, not just for the aesthetic appeal of the hotel but also to ensure that each guestโs stay fosters a connection to the city.
