ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Surveillance footage has emerged detailing the events inside an Allen Park gas station during an hours-long standoff with police.
The gas station owners watched it unfold live on their cell phones Friday, May 30. A man barricaded himself inside the store while armed with a knife. As the situation escalated, one of the owners rushed to the gas station, while the other remained at home in Oakland County.
Raida Adas, one of the gas station owners, was in her kitchen cooking dinner when her husband called to inform her of the situation. She quickly picked up her phone and became glued to the live feed.
Raida shared stunning surveillance video from inside the gas station.
“The craziest one was when he got inside and locked the door, waving the knife,” she said.
At the time of the incident, a cashier and a stock clerk were inside the store. Fortunately, both workers left unharmed.
Five hours later, police and the SWAT team moved in.
“My heart dropped; this was serious,” Raida recalled.
The standoff began Friday afternoon at the Marathon gas station located at Southfield and Allen roads in Allen Park.
“I felt like it was an action movie, a nightmare. I couldn’t believe it was happening in our station,” she said.
After securing the knife, the man was taken into custody without any injuries reported.
“I’m very thankful to police for keeping our employees, this guy’s life, and everybody safe,” Raida said.
She said her workers never felt threatened, nothing was stolen, and she hopes the man receives help in the future.
