Detroit 4th grader wins school talent show with strong rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’, video goes viral

The 10-year-old’s powerful voice won her first place in the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences talent show

DETROIT – A fourth-grader from Detroit is capturing hearts around the globe with her incredible talent.

Ava Dargin has recently gone viral after a video of her singing a stunning rendition of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked during her school’s talent show began circulating online.

The 10-year-old’s powerful voice not only won her first place in the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences talent show on May 29, but it has also endeared her to audiences worldwide.

When asked how special music is to her, Dargin said, “Music is a part of my heart. Music is very special to me.”

This connection to music runs deep in her family; Ava’s mother, Ravin Glass, is also a singer, and their home is affectionately known as the “Music House.”

Glass always believed that people would hear her daughter’s talent one day, though she didn’t expect it to happen quite like this.

“People are talking about how she walked off the stage like it was nothing. A lot of people are talking about crying. You made all of these grown people cry,” Glass said, referring to the emotional impact of Dargin’s performance.

The viral video has garnered millions of views, with even celebrities liking and sharing the posts.

“They were going to see that talent. That’s not something that you can just keep bottled up. And the fact that celebrities are acknowledging what they know is true talent, coming out of this little bitty body, is just amazing,” Dargin said.

Dargin is taking all of this attention in stride while remaining focused on her dreams.

It’s clear this little singer with the big voice has some huge plans for the future.

“I’m dreaming big about the things that are going to happen in the future to me,” Dargin said, showcasing her ambition and determination.

With her talent already attracting interest from entertainment companies, the family plans to share more videos of Dargin’s music on social media very soon.
