WDIV/Detroit News poll finds 84.5% of Detroit voters disapprove of president

DETROIT – Detroit voters were asked during a recent poll whether they approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump has done as president.

Here’s the exact wording of the question, which was asked over the phone: “Do you approve or disapprove of the job being done by Donald Trump as president of the United State?”

Participants were then asked, “Would that be strongly approve/disapprove or just somewhat approve/disapprove?”

Here are the results:

  • Strongly approve -- 3.9%.
  • Somewhat approve -- 4.7%.
  • Somewhat disapprove -- 6.5%.
  • Strongly disapprove -- 78%.
  • Neutral/don’t know/refused -- 6.9%.

Poll methodology

WDIV and the Detroit News commissioned a survey of likely August 2025 primary election voters within the city of Detroit. The poll was conducted y The Glengariff Group, Inc.

It was a 500 sample, live operator telephone survey from May 27-29, 2025.

The margin of error is +/- 4%, and there is a 95% level of confidence.

Of the respondents, 10.4% were called via landline telephone, and 89.6% were called on a cellphone.
