Protestors challenge new Sheetz locations in Macomb County

Things got heated during a meeting about a proposed Sheetz location in Macomb County.

A man was eventually removed from the meeting by police after his outburst on Tuesday (June 3).

Metro Detroit business owners and residents gathered at a meeting by the planning commission. The Sheetz site is planned for the southeast corner of 23-Mile Road and North Avenue.

Detroit voters strongly oppose city supporting federal government in immigrant removal

Detroit voters strongly oppose the city supporting the federal government in removing undocumented immigrants from Detroit, according to a poll.

The poll was conducted May 27-29 over the phone, and it targeted likely Detroit voters.

Participants were asked, “Do you support or oppose the city of Detroit using city resources and city employees to support the federal government and ICE agents in removing undocumented immigrants from Detroit?”

Washtenaw County reports significant decrease in drug overdoses

Washtenaw County is seeing a significant decrease in drug overdoses.

According to the Washtenaw County Health Department, 2024 saw 66 drug overdoses, a 25% decrease from 2023 and the fewest amount since 2016.

A 37-year-old man from Westland has been convicted of trying to provide support to ISIS and owning a destructive device.

Officials said between 2011 and October 2017, Aws Mohammed Naser tried to provide support to ISIS in the form of personnel -- including himself -- and services.
