ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A bizarre theft has left some residents in St. Clair Shores talking and on high alert.
In the early morning hours on Sunday, June 1, 2025, a man was caught on surveillance video stealing a large decorative floral planter from a local business.
The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m., and police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
The video shows a bright blue Toyota RAV4 pulling up to a business near 10 Mile Road and Little Mack Avenue, where the unidentified man, wearing a cap, exits the SUV and pops the trunk.
The man is seen struggling to lift the heavy decorative planter, wobbling and stumbling as he attempts to load it into his vehicle.
The footage captures the man’s struggle to finally manage to get the planter into his SUV before driving away from the scene.
St. Clair Shores police are actively sharing this surveillance video and images of the man’s face on social media.
Detectives hope someone can provide information about the suspect.
The business owner expressed concern over the theft, stating that the man appeared to have deliberately covered his license plate with paper, seemingly aware of the surveillance cameras.
Adding to the mystery, moments after stealing the first planter, the man returned to the scene and approached another decorative planter.
He gave it a tug but ultimately decided to leave it behind. This unusual crime has prompted residents to remain vigilant.
