SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Dozens of pets found their forever homes Saturday in an unlikely place where potential adopters lined up early for a chance to meet their new best friend.
The “Meet Your Best Friend at the Firm” event, hosted by the Mike Morse Law Firm in partnership with Michigan Humane, featured approximately 200 adoptable dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs from various rescue organizations across the state.
Maya Ford of Detroit jumped first in line, determined to fulfill her lifelong dream of adopting a dog.
“I’ve always wanted a dog ever since I was a kid,” Ford said. “I am not leaving here until I get my puppy.”
Michigan Humane CEO Matt Pepper emphasized the event’s significance:
“This is the best thing about the job - completing families, adopting pets and just seeing the joy on people’s faces when they leave this parking lot today,” he said.
Making Pet Adoption Accessible
The collaboration between Michigan Humane and Mike Morse Law Firm aims to make pet adoption more accessible and affordable for Michigan families.
Attorney Mike Morse encouraged adoption over purchasing pets from commercial breeders.
“We have lots of dogs and cats that need adoption,” Morse said. “Don’t buy. Don’t go out there and spend a lot of money. For a couple hundred bucks, you can get a great animal that’s loyal and smart and well-behaved.”
Supporting Local Animal Welfare
The event featured multiple local shelters and rescue groups, showcasing their adoptable pets and providing information about their services.
Year-Round Adoption Opportunities
While the one-day event drew large crowds, Michigan Humane reminds potential adopters that pets are available for adoption throughout the year at their Detroit and Westland locations.
For those interested in adopting, Michigan Humane maintains regular adoption hours at their facilities and frequently updates their available pets listing online.
