HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – We’re accustomed to seeing a lot of drama during these meetings, but this one was no exception, with Garbarino trying to attend the meeting as if nothing had ever happened.
Right out of the gate, sparks were flying as Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib asked Garbarino to leave the building.
“You kick the chief out of here without giving him a chance to defend himself. And you want to be here while you’re on paid administrative leave - that’s inappropriate,” Mayor Ghalid said to Garbarino.
But right before the police escorted Garbarino out, he ended up threatening another lawsuit.
“Some people hired to the city want to control everything, and their philosophy is either I control you or I sue you. That’s not how things work,” said Ghalib to the crowd.
Ghalib insisted that Garbarino was only there to cause trouble.
“I think Max is here to intimidate the city council and mayor. He should not be in the building if he’s still here. I really don’t feel safe now. He should be out of the building,” Ghalib said.
When it came to determining which third-party company would conduct the investigation, the council voted unanimously to choose the Miller-Johnson firm for the job.
