Some Oakland County residents endure 24-hour water outage, now under boil advisory

Tenants report that they frequently experience service interruptions when power fails

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Residents of Orion Lakes mobile home park were without water for more than 24 hours after the property owners reported that a power outage had disabled the park’s well.

Water was restored Wednesday (June 18) night, but tenants are still under a water boil advisory for at least 48 hours until the water quality can be tested.

“I got text messages about they’re aware of the water. They’re working with an outside company,” said Andrew Yeater, an eight-year resident of the park.

Tenants report that they frequently experience service interruptions when power fails.

Each time the well is depressurized, property management has to test the water quality and issue water boil advisories.

Yeater said it’s been a frequent occurrence since he moved in.

“Sometimes it’s twice a month, sometimes every other month,” Yeater said.

Property owners regularly flush fire hydrants at the complex to help improve water quality.

Residents say this often leads to even more service disruptions.

“More often than not, there’s issues with it afterwards. So boiling water or it’ll be out for longer than expected,” said one tenant who spoke anonymously to Local 4.

“It kind of just became I can’t do my laundry on Tuesdays,” the tenant said. “I know that I can’t do these things on Tuesdays now because it’s been happening so frequently for so long.”

The property was recently purchased by the company Cambio Communities.

The company manages mobile home communities across several states.

An on-site manager stated that the property’s office collaborated with DTE to restore water service as quickly as possible.

Management also stated that their office would take steps to ensure the property’s generator functions properly to prevent future power outages.
