Here’s what’s different with downtown Ferndale’s parking system, payment options

City switching parking spaces to parking zones

FERNDALE, Mich. – People may notice small changes to downtown Ferndale’s parking system and payment options.

There’s still the option to use the Park Ferndale app, but there are parking zones instead of spaces.

The city said it wanted to make the process easier, so it’s switching from more than 1,000 parking spaces to 20 parking zones.

Ferndale now offers four payment options, including the app, text, a kiosk and a QR code.

One difference is that a license plate number is required when paying. City leaders said it is designed to be efficient, which will hopefully keep people coming back to Ferndale.

“Our parking system is a big part of the downtown experience if you drive here, said Jennie Beeker, the executive director for Downtown Ferndale.” Moving forward, we are working on making sure that folks can get around our downtown comfortably and safely, that they know where they are, they know how to use our parking system, and they can make their way easily between all of our amazing shops and restaurants.”

The parking changes are already in effect. Updated signs are being posted in parking areas. As a reminder, there is still a two-hour limit for on-street parking.
