The meeting, held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Wayne County Community College in Belleville, aims to address community concerns, with EGLE and the EPA facilitating the discussion.

Wayne Disposal, a major hazardous waste landfill in Wayne County, has been at the center of a controversy involving radioactive waste from the Manhattan Project.

Recently, state leaders hosted a meeting in Belleville where dozens of neighbors came out to voice their concerns. Thursday’s meeting is expected to focus on the license renewal application for Wayne Disposal.

“We provide safe, responsible, and essential waste disposal services for industries in Michigan and throughout the region,” Wayne Disposal wrote in a recent statement. “The facility is permitted and equipped to securely manage these waste streams and operates in compliance with all regulatory requirements.”
