SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man from Farmington is facing several charges after police found him drunk in the back of a Mustang.
According to authorities, a police officer in Shelby Township saw a Ford Mustang that was going 75 mph in a 45 mph zone on June 13. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the Mustang took off, reportedly being clocked at 143 mph while still in the 45 mph zone.

Shortly after, a Shelby Township resident called 911 to report that a black Ford Mustang had just parked in his driveway and that an unknown man got out and ran away.
Police arrived at the home, where they learned that the man had returned to the Mustang and left before they arrived. It was located nearby shortly after, with a man curled up in the back seat. He reportedly smelled heavily of alcohol and refused to answer questions.
The officer reportedly found inside the vehicle several open bottles of alcohol and a rifle that looked like someone had tried to file off the serial numbers.
Despite the damage, police were able to identify the rifle as a gun that had been stolen out of Detroit.
Anthony Averitte was arrested and charged with receiving and concealing a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm and operating while intoxicated.
Averitte was given a $50,000 cash/surety bond.
