WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – An 8-year-old girl fell out of a vehicle and was run over on I-94 in Wayne County during a domestic altercation between relatives, police said.
Troopers responded to westbound I-94 near Vining Road in Romulus at about 9 p.m. on Monday, June 30, after receiving 911 calls about an assault that was happening inside a Ford SUV.

Callers also reported seeing a man walking away from the brown SUV on the freeway, and that the vehicle had exited I-94 at Vining.
When troopers arrived, they learned that two men, a 36-year-old and a 51-year-old, both from Dearborn, were relatives and had been involved in a domestic assault inside the SUV.
The 51-year-old man who walked away from the vehicle had a serious injury to his eye and was taken to the hospital.
He told authorities that the 36-year-old was sitting behind him in the vehicle when they began to argue.
“An interview of the victim revealed that the suspect, a 36-year-old male from Dearborn, was sitting behind him when they started to argue,” said Michigan State Police. “The suspect started punching the victim. The victim pulled onto the shoulder and the suspect got out of the car and his 8-year-old daughter began to get out while the victim was starting to pull away.”
The 8-year-old Dearborn girl then fell out of the vehicle, and her arm was run over by the SUV.
The suspect drove away. Troopers later learned that he took his daughter to a local hospital.
Troopers arrested the suspect, and he was lodged pending a review from the prosecutor’s office.
His 8-year-old daughter was turned over to her grandmother and then taken to Children’s Hospital.
“Troopers are continuing their investigation into this assault and will submit an investigators report to the prosecutor,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. “If you or a loved one has experienced domestic violence call 911 or you can seek help through the domestic violence hotline at 866. VOICEDV.”
