It’s not a done deal — Springfield Township leaders still have to make a final decision on the plan.
The debate is over 422 acres of land. The company wants to put a gravel mine in a field, compromising 213 of those acres. The extraction of gravel and other materials in the Springfield Township area is expected to take over 20 years, divided into five distinct phases.
Residents are preparing to protest again at a meeting on Thursday night, as they are concerned about the long-term health effects and quality of life.
Before the township makes a decision, they said they want to seek a third-party environmental firm to access the proposed project.
The memo states that officials will look at establishing an Escrow account to hire the experts and consultants needed to review the plans without bias.
The township board meeting is scheduled for July 10 at 7 p.m.
