Balloon release honors Eastpointe McDonald’s manager killed in stabbing

Community honors life of Jennifer Harris

EASTPOINTE – Family, friends and community members gathered on Monday to honor the life of Jennifer Harris, the mother of six who was killed in a stabbing at a McDonald’s in Eastpointe last week.

Harris, 39, was a longtime manager of the McDonald’s at 17921 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe. She was fatally stabbed by an employee, identified as Afeni Badu Muhammad, 26, of Eastpointe, following an argument, according to authorities.

Several people have gathered at the McDonald’s location for a balloon release in honor of Harris on Monday evening.

“Every time, just thinking about what happened to her and stuff, and it’s not really fair,“ a family member said. ”We need her back, but we can’t have her back. We need her back. She was a good person."

A GoFundMe has also been started to support Harris’ six children.

Muhammad was arraigned on the charges of first-degree murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and being a habitual offender, second offense.

After the argument with Harris, Muhammad allegedly briefly left the McDonald’s before she returned and stabbed Harris to death.

Muhammad was issued a $25 million bond and is set to appear in court again on July 23 for a probable cause conference.
