Jennifer Harris killed after dispute with fellow employee, police say

DETROIT – Nine people spoke Wednesday at a rally in response to the murder of a McDonald’s manager who police say was stabbed to death by an employee.

Jennifer Harris, 39, was a manager at the McDonald’s at 17921 East 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe. Police said she was killed July 10 after an argument with another worker, Afeni Badu Muhammad.

Muhammad, 26, of Eastpointe, is accused of leaving the restaurant and then returning to stab Harris multiple times. She is charged with first-degree murder.

Harris had six children.

Wednesday’s event

Dr. Tenisia Evans, the pastor of Divine Restoration Ministries, helped Harris’ children hold a vigil earlier in the week that included a balloon release and comments from Eastpointe’s mayor and the owner of the McDonald’s.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, Evans hosting another event -- a “NO Violence Rally” at Divine Restoration Ministries.

“We must come together to grieve, to speak out, and to fight for peace in our neighborhoods,” Evans said about the event.

  • Pastor and Detroit Detective Darrell Dawson Jr., of the Sex Crimes Unit.
  • Mental health advocate Dominique Matthews.

Evans also promoted the “Jennifer Harris Legacy Fund,” which has been set up to benefit Harris’ six children.
