Collapsed road in Oakland County draws crowds, cleanup crews

Road closed indefinitely

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Even though a whole day has passed since the massive rainfall in Oakland County, people are still feeling the effects of flooding in multiple Places, especially on Orion and Canyon roads, where the street has crumbled, creating a somewhat scenic waterfall.

“It’s the most exciting thing that we’ve had on this road that I can remember. We have a new fall. The name of the road is Canyon. So, we have Canyon Falls,” said Ron Omilian, who lives nearby.

Although it’s an attraction for Ron and his grandson, the water crews are carefully working around an exposed gas line while trying to assist in the cleanup.

“They said I’m gonna have gas that way. I don’t know about that way,” Omilian said.

Crews can’t do much right now, however.

“We’ve been told that more than likely in the next few days it’s gonna even get worse and they will have to wait til this water subsides before they can do any type of work,” said John Bausano, who lives nearby.

As the workers patiently wait, the road closure has created significant traffic congestion problems.

“We were trying to get home last night, and everything’s flooded. We were trying to find an alternate route, so that’s why we’re here to see what happened,” Grace Gabrilas added.

All Rick Jamalieh can think about are the people in Texas who have it way worse.

“First thing that was on my mind is the flood in Texas. It’s 10x worse than this, but I can’t imagine what they’re going through,” Jamalieh said.

The road repair will not be an easy fix. However, crews are working around the clock to repair this as quickly as possible.
