MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A high-speed chase through Monroe County concluded with the recovery of two stolen vehicles.
The incident occurred at 1 a.m. on Monday (July 21) when Monroe County Central Dispatch was alerted to three stolen Jeep Wranglers possibly entering Monroe County from Ohio.

Police said sheriff’s deputies strategically positioned themselves along I-75 in anticipation of the vehicles.
Shortly afterward, Officials said several concerned citizens along S. Telegraph Road reported three Jeep Wranglers traveling northbound at high rates of speed.
As deputies were repositioning, the Monroe Public Safety Department stated that they had located the stolen vehicles and initiated a vehicle pursuit.
The Monroe Public Safety Department terminated its vehicle pursuit upon entering the county, as Monroe County Sheriff’s Office units became involved.
Police said a deputy in the area of Stewart Road observed one of the Jeeps traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.
Simultaneously, another deputy, near North Monroe Street and Stewart Road, observed a second Jeep turning north onto North Monroe Street at a high rate of speed.
Both deputies stated that they initiated pursuits, with one heading west and the other north.
Police said the westbound Jeep continued at a high rate of speed onto Bluebush Road, with no headlights activated.
The deputy maintained visual contact by following the vehicle’s brake lights as it traveled north on Steffas Road, eventually reaching South Stony Creek Road.
Police said the vehicle then left the roadway and drove behind a residence in the 10000 block of South Stony Creek Road, where the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. Meanwhile, the second Jeep, traveling north on North Monroe Street, turned east onto Newport Road and then entered northbound I-75.
Officials stated that the vehicle left the roadway and struck thick vegetation, and the driver also fled on foot.
Despite an extensive search effort involving multiple agencies, police said the suspects were not apprehended.
Officials said two of the stolen vehicles were recovered and towed from the scene.
Members of the Monroe Public Safety Department, South Rockwood Police Department, Michigan State Police, as well as the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and K-9 Unit assisted at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by Deputy Sheriffs Brent Thomas and Andrew Boski of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
