DEARBORN, Mich. – FBI and Michigan State Police conducted searches at multiple homes in a Dearborn neighborhood on Friday, sparking concern among local residents.
Carol Perrin, who lives in the area, said, “This is scary. This is something I would watch on TV that would not be in Dearborn.”
The presence of FBI agents and state police officers was unusual for the community.
“I just never thought something like this would be going on,” Perrin said.
Another resident, Chi, described hearing sirens and officers announcing, “This is the FBI, come out.”
“The community is lowkey, very quiet, so you wouldn’t expect it from here,” Chi said.
The investigation extended beyond Dearborn.
Inkster Mayor Byron Nolen confirmed that authorities followed leads to a storage facility in Inkster.
“It’s just the reality of where we’re at in the world right now,” Nolen said. “Thus far, luckily, no one has been injured or hurt, so I’m grateful for that. We just have to keep moving forward and protect our residents.”
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media that the agency had thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple suspects in Michigan who were allegedly planning a violent attack over Halloween weekend.
Ahmed, a Dearborn resident, expressed his unease: “It frightens me that the FBI director of the whole country is making a report on Dearborn right around the block from my house.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also commented on social media, saying she had been briefed on the situation and expressed gratitude for the swift action by the FBI and Michigan State Police in protecting residents.
Ahmed said, “I feel like the state police and the FBI will actually do their job.”
Local 4 reached out to the city of Dearborn for comment.
The city shared a police department statement on social media, assuring residents that there is no threat to the public at this time.
The city of Inkster announced it will increase police patrols for Halloween activities on Friday (Oct. 31).
