“Access to reliable transportation shouldn’t stand between anyone and their right to vote,” said Tiffany J. Gunter, SMART General Manager and CEO. “By offering free rides on Election Day, SMART is making it easier for everyone in our communities to participate in the electoral process. It’s another way we’re connecting people to what matters most, and that includes their voice at the ballot box.”
The free rides will be available on the following SMART services:
- Fixed Route Buses: Regularly scheduled routes serving major corridors and communities across Southeast Michigan.
- Connector Services: Curb-to-curb service available by advance reservation.
- ADA Paratransit: Curb-to-curb service for eligible riders with disabilities.
- SMART Flex: On-demand service in Dearborn, Troy/Clawson, Auburn Hills/Pontiac, Hall Road, and Farmington/Farmington Hills.
“We’re working hand in hand with our friends at DDOT because we understand the importance of connectivity,” Gunter said. “Many of our riders rely on multiple forms of transit, and by collaborating across agencies, we make it easier for people to move throughout the region. This cooperation ensures seamless access for everyone, especially on Election Day, when getting to the polls matters most.”
This is the third year that SMART has provided residents with free rides on Election Day.
