The crash involved a 2008 Ford Super Duty limo-bus driven by a 69-year-old Detroit man.
The vehicle was transporting mostly teenage members of the City of Detroit’s Community Violence Intervention Program to Cedar Point when it “left the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled several times,” according to state police.
Several passengers were ejected from the vehicle.
The driver told police that he “has no recollection” of the crash.
There were 15 people in the limo bus. Eleven passengers were taken to three local hospitals to be treated for their injuries.
Of those who were injured, eight suffered minor injuries, two had serious injuries, and one passenger was listed in critical condition. Their ages haven’t been released at this time.
Investigators found the driver did not have the proper group designation on his commercial driver’s license that is necessary to operate the vehicle, and he lacked a valid Department of Transportation medical certificate.
They also learned that the bus company didn’t have a “valid operating authority to transport passengers,” according to MSP.
MSP said the driver was cited for operating without the proper vehicle group designation (misdemeanor), careless driving (civil infraction), and no medical certificate (civil infraction).
The investigation is ongoing.
