Washtenaw County crash kills 2, injures 4 others, including children

SALINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Michigan State Police are investigating a crash in Saline Township that killed two people and injured several others.

It happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, on Michigan Avenue, near Willow Road.

According to authorities, a 56-year-old man from Jackson County was driving a Ram pickup westbound on Michigan Avenue when he attempted to pass a semi truck with a trailer. The driver reportedly hit an eastbound Jeep, sideswiped the semi truck, and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on.

The Silverado’s driver, a 43-year-old man from Hillsdale County, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene. A woman passenger was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Ram also died at the scene.

The Jeep’s driver, a 36-year-old woman from Tecumseh, was hospitalized with critical injuries. Her children, a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries.

The semi truck driver, a 57-year-old man from Birmingham, was not injured.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
