Strut Honey puts Detroit’s next generation of style in the spotlight

DETROIT – Detroit has always been a city that dresses with intention.

From the gilded boutiques of the early 20th century to the sharp, coordinated looks of the Motown era, the city’s fashion history runs deep and it’s still being written today.

Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion, a historic shopping district on Livernois, rose to prominence in the mid-20th century as a hub for style and Black entrepreneurship, offering boutiques, tailors, and designer storefronts. The city’s fashion influence expanded nationally during the Motown era, while local brands like Carhartt bridged industrial workwear and mainstream style.

Jaia Honey, producer and model for Strut Honey Fashion, and Aaron Cross, the show’s production manager, are helping carry that tradition forward.
