DETROIT – A 20-year-old Detroit man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to multiple charges stemming from a double shooting that occurred on the city’s west side in December.
Kavonta Maurice Plummer was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony, resisting and obstructing a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon for his alleged role in the Dec. 10 shooting, which police say occurred after an argument between Plummer and two others escalated in the 15500 block of Sussex Street.
Then 17-year-old Lorenza Bernard Lancaster, who was also involved in the argument, reportedly fired the gun, injuring a 22-year-old man and killing 18-year-old Cherish Hinson, who police say was not involved in the argument.
Police say Lancaster and Plummer both fled the scene, but were arrested a short time later.
Lancaster previously faced charges for first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm, but those charges were dismissed in April after the defendant was found incompetent to stand trial, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Plummer, who previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, entered a guilty plea on all counts during Tuesday’s disposition.
He is expected to appear before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Shannon Walker for his sentencing on July 29.
