DETROIT – A mother, her 10-year-old son, and two relatives were injured during a quadruple shooting on Detroit’s east side.
The shooting occurred on Friday (Aug. 21) shortly before 6 p.m. in the 3700 block of Haverhill Street, according to Assistant Chief Kari Sloan.
Sloan said four people were exiting a location when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and someone inside began firing multiple shots.
The victims include an injured 40-year-old woman, her 10-year-old son, and two relatives: a man in his 40s and a man in his 20s.
The 40-year-old woman, who is the mother of the 10-year-old, was in critical condition, Sloan said.
The other three victims are expected to be OK.
Investigators have not released a description of the vehicle or identified a suspect.
Sloan said detectives were canvassing the area for surveillance footage as they work to determine what led to the shooting.
Police recovered a weapon at the scene.
Investigators have not determined how many shots were fired or whether the gunfire came from inside the vehicle.
Sloan said the investigation is in its early stages.
“Early this evening, four people were injured by gunfire in a drive-by shooting on Haverhill street.
According to DPD, of the three adult victims, two have non-life threatening injuries, but a young woman is in critical condition.
Our thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time as we pray for her recovery.
The youngest victim, who by the grace of God was not seriously injured, is a 10-year-old boy.
This senseless and indiscriminate violence should never reach a young child and will not be tolerated.
DPD will find those responsible for this heinous crime and we will ensure justice is served.
If you know anything, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or DPD at 313-596-2260."
