Demolition begins on historic Roseville church to make way for Sheetz gas station
Demolition expected to take weeks

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A piece of Roseville history is coming down.
Crews started demolishing the former Sacred Heart Church at Gratiot and Utica on Sept. 21, clearing the way for a new Sheetz gas station.

The church closed in 2017 after serving the community for 156 years. Plans to replace it with the $8 million development drew a strong reaction from nearby residents. Some former Sacred Heart students even gathered with lawn chairs Monday to watch the building come down.
Demolition is expected to last six to eight weeks, with construction starting this fall. The Sheetz gas station is expected to open next year.
