DETROIT – Family and friends gathered to honor and remember a Detroit woman who police say was killed in a random stabbing outside her workplace.
Detroit police said Jaquoya Wix was attacked while on a break from her job at a Chipotle restaurant in downtown Detroit.
Investigators said the suspect, a man in his 40s, stabbed Wix before fleeing.
Loved ones gathered on Monday (Sept. 21) for a vigil and remembered Wix as a loving and resilient person. She leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter.
“Just remember her as a very, very loving, very good person,” said Wix’s aunt Anna Solis during the vigil. “She would do anything for anybody. She would help anybody that would ask her for help. She would give the homeless cigarettes if they asked her; she would give you her last dollar as she was a very good person.”
“She always got back up, no matter what it was,” said Wix’s sister Alicya Wix. “Even in this circumstance, she got back up even for a second and asked for help. That’s just how strong my sister was. I don’t how i’m going to be the same without her.”
The man accused in Wix’s killing remains in custody.
No charges have been filed.
