BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Pleasant Valley Ridge bridge was demolished Thursday afternoon after a semi truck crashed into the overpass Tuesday evening, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Crews were originally scheduled to demolish the bridge Thursday night, but MDOT announced the work has been accelerated begain in the afternoon. The work is already complete and the freeway has reopened.
MDOT said Wednesday morning the structure over eastbound I-96 must be removed before I-96 can safely reopen. All three eastbound lanes are now open on the interstate are closed just east of US-23.

Pleasant Valley Road over I-96 will remain closed for approximately 6 months until the new structure can be built.
