The ninth-largest lottery jackpot will be on the line when numbers are drawn for a $785 million Powerball prize. The payout for the drawing, Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 has grown so large because it has been building for more than two months, since a player in California matched all six numbers on July 19. A St. Clair County man was trembling and could barely speak when he won a $200,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.

The man, from Wales Township, matched four white balls and the Powerball – 10-11-26-27-34, PB: 07 – in the Dec. 30 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $200,000. He bought his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com. Wales Township is about 20 miles west of Port Huron.

“I bought a few Powerball tickets online since the jackpot was getting close to $1 billion,” said the winner. “The day after the drawing, I had an email from the Lottery that I had never seen before. It had instructions on claiming my prize, but it didn’t show how much I’d won.

“When I logged in to my Lottery account and saw I’d won $200,000, I was shocked! I called my sister, but I couldn’t get the words out to tell her I’d won because I was trembling. Winning feels so surreal!”

He visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim his prize. He plans to share his winnings with his kids.
